Dominick LaMont Dickens
Dominick LaMont Dickens, 10, Kearney, Mo., passed away December 22, 2013 at St. Jude Hospital. Dominick was born September 24, 2003 to Derek LaMont Dickens and Elizabeth “Lisa” Dawn Reiter in North Kansas City, Mo. He was a 4th grade student at Kearney Elementary School, Cub Scout and a member of Northern Hills Baptist Church where he was part of Awanas.
Dominick loved spending time with his family, from playing video games with his dad, playing on the iPad with his cousins, to hanging out with his Uncle Kirk, Aunt Lisa and cousin, Raz. He was able to travel to several states with his mom, spending a month in California with extended family this past summer.
He was the only child at St. Jude who drank his sparkling cider out of a real wine glass, a special holiday treat. He also enjoyed watching Sci-Fi, comedy and mild thriller movies, was an avid KU basketball fan and enjoyed sea food from crab legs to lobster.
He enjoyed time with Grandpa and Grandma Reiter, where he could be close to nature and animals. He could often be found watching the birds with Grandma, playing with the dogs, Anni and Leo, tormenting the birds, Cosmo and Pikachu, or riding the horse, Star.
Dominick was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Annie Dickens; and three uncles, Brian, Wayne and Jerome Dickens.
He is survived by his parents; maternal grandparents, Richard and Sandra Reiter; brothers, Tyriq Jackson and Derek Dickens Jr.; sister, Kayla Dickens; aunts and uncles, Casondra and Christopher Campbell, Austin and Alissa Reiter, Kirk and Lisa Dickens, Troain and Tracy Dickens, The Williams, Damaris Mills-Dickens, Brent and Robin Hansen, Mark and Lindsay Reiter, Leroy and Cory Johnson, Clark and Fran Reiter, Bea and Brian Reiter, Matt and Sandy Reiter, Robert and Carol Reiter, and Jane and Keith Rongey; cousins, Razinah Pearson, Ja’Den, T.J., Terrell, Taylor, Mike, Abril, Jerris, Ja’Ceer, Dajuan, Reneé, Henry, Victoria, Mitchell, Andrew, Carter, Aiden, Kendal, Molly, Gabriella, Aurora, Hattie, Shane, Ellie, Tyler, Mark, Melissa, Amanda, Adam, Lisa, and Kaeley; and close friends, Shawn and Connor Foote, Eli Ashcroft and James Villers.
Services will be 12 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to service at Northern Hills Baptist Church. Private family burial. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Dominick Dickens Memorial Fund c/o Kearney Trust.
Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney.
