Dallas Horton Ferrell
Dallas Ferrell, 80, Wood Heights, Mo., formerly of Pittsburg, Kans., passed away March 18, 2016 at the Cameron Missouri Veterans Home.
Dallas was born August 13, 1935 to Orville and Florence Ferrell in Hiwasse, Ark. He spent his career in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant with over 25 years of service. Dallas was honored to have served his country both domestically and abroad. He was proud of all the men and women, both past and present, who do so. His family wishes to thank all of those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.
After retirement he worked as a supervisor at Sugar Creek Packing. Dallas enjoyed painting, music, rock and coin collections.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jeanie Ferrell; and four siblings, Roy, Stanley, Helen and Ruth.
He is survived by his wife, Inge of the home; daughter, Kathy and husband, Dr. Danny Bartlett of Cameron, Mo.; son, Stephen Ferrell of Pittsburg, Kans.; three grandsons, Michael Ferrell of Pittsburg, Kans., Darrell Bartlett and Timothy Bartlett, both of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Betty Masterson of Pittsburg, Kans.; and a brother, Jim Ferrell of Shawnee, Kans.
Dallas was a mentor to many and his wisdom will be sorely missed. As a self-educated man, he loved to study and travel to historical places. He shared his experiences joyously with his family and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., with full military honors rendered at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. A reception and celebration of life to honor him will be held immediately after the visitation at the Bartlett home. Inurnment will be held 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Ft. Scott National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, Kans.
The family suggest in lieu of flowers the memorial contributions to the Cameron Missouri Veterans Home, 1111 Euclid Ave, Cameron, MO 64429.
