Dorothy Lea McCoy
Dorothy L. McCoy, 88, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away November 7, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born July 1, 1926 to Bert and Emma Scott in Elkhart, Kans. Dorothy operated a beauty shop out of her home for many years in Bethany, Mo. After moving to Excelsior Springs, she joined her husband, John, driving an eighteen-wheeler throughout the U.S. She was also a member of the Excelsior Springs Baptist Church. Dorothy’s love for music was well known, and you would often see her enjoying and tapping her foot to the Country Music Makers. She was a very giving person. She showed this through her love of baking bread and making candy to give away to anyone who was lucky enough to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John W. McCoy; son, John F. “Jack” McCoy; brothers, Gordon, Clyde, Wilburn and her twin, Max Scott.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Shelton, of Excelsior Springs; grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Smith of Kansas City, Mo., and Zach (Brittany) Shelton of Greenwood, Mo.; great-grandsons, Blake, Gavin and soon to arrive Max Shelton; daughter-in-law, Jan Trautloff; and sister-in-law, Trolene Scott.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014, also at the funeral home with graveside services following at Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
