David Lee Miller
February 23, 1943 ~ March 19, 2013
David L. Miller, 70, Kearney, Mo., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the University of Kansas Hospital. He was born February 23, 1943 in Pittsburg, Kans., the son of Cleo and Emma (Thompson) Miller. On October 19, 1963, he married Rita Ervin in Kearney, Mo. She survives at the home.
He was lifelong resident of Kearney, where he attended Kearney Schools. He was valedictorian of the 1961 Kearney High School graduating class, as well as a member of the 1961 Class S Basketball State Championship Team.
After high school, he attended and graduated, with honors, from Central Technical Institute of Kansas City. He retired from Thales in 2007 after 42 years of service as an electrical engineer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kearney.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Brian (Dana) Miller, Dana (Doug) Starzl, Mike (Gretchen) Miller, all of Kearney, and Jennifer (Wes) Croy of Trenton. David is also survived by a brother, Danny Miller, sister, Jane Watson, and mother-in-law, Faye Ervin, all of Kearney. In addition he leaves behind eight grandchildren, Dillon Starzl, Dray Starzl, Micha Miller, Montana Miller, Brody Miller, Lathan Croy, Salem Croy and Kaegen Croy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cleo Miller, mother, Emma Miller and one grandchild, Drew Starzl.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Kearney on Friday, March 22, 2013. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Kearney on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney.
