Else Groves

Else Elizabeth Groves, 79, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2012. Else was born February 16, 1933 in Aschaffenburg, Germany.

In 1957 she met John Groves at the PX on the military base where John was stationed and also where Else worked. Else sold John a pair of boots. He came back the next day because she sold him two boots for the same foot. That day he asked her out. They were married on October 31, 1957. John always said he got tricked because they were married on Halloween. Else always informed John that this was not the case because, there is no Halloween in Germany. They were married 38 wonderful years.

After returning to the United States, Else worked at Luzier’s Cosmetics in Kansas City. She later was a food demonstrator for Price Chopper and Sunfresh grocery stores. John and Else had two daughters, Anna Cline and Carol Groves. Else was known for her German dancing and cooking. No one could match Else’s German cooking.

Else was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, one grandson Jeremy, and her sister, Regina.

Else is survived by daughters, Anna Cline of Blue Springs, and Carol Groves of Kansas City. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Lewis, Derrick, and Catherine, as well as two sisters, Chris and Erica.

Else was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be from 12 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Fry Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney, Mo. Graveside services will follow at Floral Hills East in Lee’s Summit, Mo., at 2:30 p.m. Contributions to the funeral home for Else’s memorial.
