Floyd Marriott
Floyd Fredrick Marriott, 86, Excelsior Springs, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, with his family by his side. Floyd was born the son of Elbert C. and Isa Dora (Huff) Marriott on Jan. 10, 1925, near Versailles, Mo., and grew up in Stover. Toward the end of World War II he enlisted with the Army, serving from 1945 to 1948. He then attended William Jewell college, graduating with a degree in economics. He lived most of his lifetime in Clay County, Mo.
On Nov. 4, 1949, Floyd was united in marriage to Mary Katheryn Eilliott of Mosby, Mo. He was a member of the Mosby Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Excelsior Springs and the Union Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Post Office following a career that began when he became Postmaster for the town of Gerster. He was a member of the Angerona Masonic Lodge, and he and Mary enjoyed retirement camping.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sisters, Veta and Clara; brothers, Daniel, Harold and Estol; and daughter-in-law, Marie. A loving husband, father and grandpa, Floyd is survived by son, Ronald, Excelsior Springs; daughter, Katheryn and husband, Billy Joe Goode, Orrick; son, Richard Marriott and partner Terry Propst, Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren, Veronica Marriott (Bill), Emily Wright (Jon) and Britt Goode. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda C. Howard (Charles), Dallas, Texas, and Ruth King (Vernon), Excelsior Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Union Baptist Church in Orrick. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Donations may be made to the Union Baptist Church Building Fund.
