Flossie Payne
Flossie Payne, 103, Excelsior Springs, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011. Flossie was born Jan. 12, 1908 in Platte City, Mo., the daughter of Alvin and Laura Jones Payne. She worked for Morrison Jewelry, Kennedy Jewelry, which she bought and called Payne Jewelry. She also worked for the city of Excelsior Springs. Flossie was a member of Woods Memorial Christian Church since she was 11, but had attended since the age of 2. She served as Treasurer Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School and taught three Sunday School classes. She was also a member of PWPA Ladies Guild of WMCC, P.E.O. Chapter K.I. of P.E.O. Sisterhood. She also served as secretary of the museum and Chair of the City Planning Committee.
Survivors include her niece, Linda and husband, Gary; two great-nieces and two great-great-nieces; and friends Mike and Barbara Britt.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, July 11 at Woods Memorial Christian Church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Contributions may be made to P.E.O. Chapter K.I. International Peace Scholarship Fund or the church.
