Helen Marie Borchert
Helen Marie Borchert of Excelsior Springs, Mo., went to be with Jesus on October 23, 2016 at the age of 93, just hours after her 65th anniversary. She had been saying how much she missed him lately. What an awesome reunion!
Helen was born on October 14, 1923 in Kansas City, Mo., to Edna and Joseph Newton. She was the fourth of six children.
Helen worked at Sears, and this is where she met the love of her whole life, Arthur E. Borchert Sr., a handsome World War II veteran. Arthur soon asked Helen to be his wife. The two of them took an adventure together to Benton, Ark., where they said their vows. They bought a small basement home in rural Wood Heights, Mo., where they blessed each other with five beautiful children, Arthur E. Borchert Jr., Terry A. Borchert, Mark E. Borchert, Pamela J. Cringan, and Shirley M. Hunter. With a rather large family in a small basement house they decided to add on and transform their tiny house into a beautiful home where both Helen and Arthur would spend the rest of their lives.
Helen can be remembered always reading to children and making the very best German cookies for Christmas. Helen loved to take adventurous walks, no distance was too far. She even walked from their home in Wood Heights to help with the school parties in Elkhorn. Helen loved to work outside and was the very best gardener. Her flowers were always so beautiful and she always loved to sit and watch the birds. Helen loved to play her guitar and also loved to listen to George Jones. She was an amazing mother and grandmother, teaching all who met her values and lessons. Everyone who met her fell in love. She was always the best listener, and she always told you how she felt, without being harsh. She was a woman many looked up to because of her class and her values.
She loved her sweet savior with all her heart. She could be heard faithfully every morning and night thanking Jesus for the day He had made and asking Him to watch over her children and grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph Newton Jr.; and her four sisters, Edna Shewmaker, Dorothy McIntyre, Frances Zeigler, and Barbara Strickland.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In the short weeks before her passing God sent Helen and her family many signs to give peace and comfort. She did it, she won the race, she brought her family together and brought healing and love to each one that she touched, if we could just have a glimpse of the everlasting life she has today we would all rejoice with her. Let us not be sad, but strive to live our lives like she did, so that one day we will all see her again. John 14:1-6
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2016 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, with burial following at Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo.
