J.C. Baxter - 1931 - 2014

It is with heavy sadness that we announce the death of our father, J.C. Baxter (Jake), who passed away on May 28, 2014 at his home.

A resident of Lawson, Mo., he was born on September 25, 1931 to Omar and Eunice Baxter.

After attending and graduating Winston High School in 1949, he headed to Chicago and attended electrical school, graduating in 1953. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1995. He enjoyed the years and friends he had made for a lifetime. He was a man of many trades and highly skilled. He had a passion for wood working. But his passion really was working his few acres in Lawson. He enjoyed planting a huge garden and watching it grow.

J.C. was a beloved dad, grandpa, and great grandpa, uncle, and great-uncle. He was a very fun, extremely intelligent, and thoughtful man with a wonderful sense of humor. We will carry on our memories and all the good times we had with him.

J.C. is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Baxter of 38 years (1991), his son, Gerald Baxter (2011), second wife, Virginia Baxter of 22 years (2014), grandson, Charles Barlow (1994), and granddaughter, Hally Guillory (2004).

He is survived by sons, Michael (Helen) Baxter of Blue Spring, Mo., Gene (Alyssa) Baxter of Kansas City, Mo., Charles Barlow of Gallatin, Mo., and Mitchell (Cheri) Baxter of Independence, Mo.; his daughters, Jacqueline Baxter of Newton, Kans., Michelle Hennigh of Independence, Mo., Joell (Rob) Hampton of Independence, Mo., and Vallie (Earl) Guillory of Independence, Mo.; 29 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; and sister, Ruth (Glen) Brightman of Cameron, Mo.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 at Flack Memorial Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo., with burial at Winston Cemetery, Winston. Mo.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Gentiva Hospice.
