Jia S. Chen
Jia S. Chen, 73, died on December 9, 2014. Jia, was born on April 29, 1941 in Fujian, China to Yu and Ling Chen.
Jia was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandpa. An honest man with an admirable work ethic, Jia never hesitated to sacrifice time and energy to make sure his family was provided for. After serving in the Taiwanese Navy, Jia migrated to America to better support his family. Following a number of years working in different restaurants, Jia took a risk and opened his own restaurant in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Through determination, focus, and commitment, Jia’s daring gamble paid off and the restaurant became successful, thus giving him the ability to do what was the very thing he wanted most, a better life for his family. Jia later sold this restaurant and worked for Hy-Vee until he retired in 2009.
Jia married Mang, a friend since childhood. Over the course of their marriage they had three children. He is survived by his wife, Mang; his children, Michael, Connie, and Louis; his daughter in law, Karen; and two grandchildren, Aidan and Alexander (both of whom he dearly loved). They will greatly miss his big hearty laugh, watching him enjoy his favorite television shows from his chair, and always treating his family as more important than himself. The best way to describe Jia is to simply state this: He was good to us and he loved us.
The family of Jia would like to thank all of the extended family and close friends for wonderful support they have provided through this difficult time. The family would also like to thank Bross & Spidle Funeral Home for their outstanding service.
There will be no service and the place of interment will be Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Mo.
