John Ervin
John William Ervin, 68, of Kearney, passed away March 1, 2012. John was born August 5, 1943, the son of Allen Stanley Ervin and Edna Faye (Dillon) Ervin. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1961 and from Central Technical Institute in 1964 receiving an A.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He later received a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Tarkio College. He held various management positions at Sprint for 34 years.
John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kearney, past member of Kearney Jaycees, Liberty Masonic Lodge and served as an Assistant Boy Scoutmaster, Troop 397. He served on the City of Kearney Board of Aldermen and the Kearney Trust Company Board of Directors.
John was preceded in death by his father and daughter-in-law, Traci Ervin.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce Ervin; mother, Edna Faye Ervin; sister, Rita Miller and her husband, David; two sons, Douglas K. Ervin and wife, Eva, of Kearney, and Rodney D. Ervin and wife, Tammy, of Wake Forest, N.C. John was a loving grandad to his three granddaughters, Kayla, Kristen and Kasey, step grandchildren, Tyler, Parker, and Madison, and step great-granddaughter, Kamryn. John will be missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Kearney, 303 S. Grove Street. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kearney. Visitation will be Friday, March 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Kearney. Arrangements Fry-Bross & Spidle, Kearney, Mo.
