Jean M.L. Geitz
Jean M.L. Geitz, 87, of Liberty, Mo., formerly of St. Joseph, Mo., passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013. There was a private family celebration of her life on December 21, 2013.
Jean was born December 24, 1925 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to John and Florence (Davis) Homer. In March 1945, she married Jess Marriott. They were married for 42 years and had three children. In June 1988, she married her second husband, Jim Geitz, whom she was married to until his passing in 2006.
Along with raising three children, Jean was involved in the St. Joseph Historical Society, the Doll Museum, and the Patee House Museum, and she also participated in the archaeological dig at Robidoux Row. She helped organize the Hyde Forge Chapter of the Questers in St. Joseph, all while completely restoring an antebellum home. She enjoyed birds of all kinds, especially blue birds, nature and gardening.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Roger Marriott (Bobbie), Jeanne Crews (Terry), and Jennifer Naylor (Chris); her sister, Betty Guehrn Maureen Jennison; brother, Jack Homer; as well as eight grandchildren, Andrea Toomay, Miki Harris, Cydney Ham, Cris Ray, Dana Thompson, Colton Naylor, and nine great grandchildren.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and person. With all the trials and tribulations in her life, she was always positive and lived each day to the fullest.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in the name of Jean M. Geitz to Martha Lafite Nature Sanctuary.
Arrangements were through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney.
