John Hartley
John “Big John” Hartley passed away after a brief illness with cancer on August 5, 2015 in Holt, Mo., surrounded by his loving family.
John was born March 27, 1951 to parents, Leroy and Revay (Goodhue) Hartley in Kansas City, Mo. John worked as a truck driver for Mid Continent Bottling Company and Pepsico for 40 years. He loved to fish, remote control boating, and bowling. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1968 and attended Rolla School of Mines, graduating with a degree in engineering.
John is preceded in death by his parents and wife of 28 years, Fran.
John is survived by his sister, Carla and Tom Riffle; son, Larry and Marquita Smith; step daughter, Kay Jones; and step son, Jimmy and Harriet Smith; grandchildren, Kim, Holly, Austin, and Spencer; nine great grandchildren; nephews, Michael and Susan Riffle and sons RJ and Jake, and Shannon Riffle and sons, Dylan, Cole, and Ethan.
A memorial service for John will be held 7 p.m. August 10, 2015 at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney, Mo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to service. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Care Hospice.
