Josephine Haynes

Josephine M. Haynes was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., to John E. and Josephine (King) Evans. She entered into rest at 12:44 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehab following an illness, at the age of 94 years, four months and seven days.

Mrs. Haynes lived in Kansas City, Mo., for 60 years, moving to Excelsior Springs in 1976. She was a homemaker, worked for an independent grocer and was an accountant for Macy's in Kansas City. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer at the Excelsior Springs Hospital. In recent years her favorite times have been spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren at family gatherings.

Josephine married Gerald E. Hayes on Oct. 25, 1936, in Olathe, Kan.; he preceded her in death Dec. 24, 1989.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Phillip Novick of Rogers, Ark., and Judy and Herman Holman of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three granddaughters and husbands, Cathy Leeden of Arma, Kan., Christy and Gary Weaver of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Jodi and Darin Hoeflicker of Liberty, Mo.; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 23, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Funeral services will be held at noon, Friday, June 24, also at the funeral home, with burial following at the Masonic Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
