John Alburn Jackson
December 25, 1939 - February 12, 2012

John Jackson lived a full life. He loved many things; going to his granddaughter’s softball games, watching a Chiefs game with his daughter, or playing a round of golf. He loved go-cart and modified car racing with his son; in fact, he took a lifetime passion for cars and turned it into a career. He found the love of his life when he was a teenager, and stayed married to her for 52 years. If life is measured by its fullness, John’s life was an incredible achievement.

John Alburn Jackson was the first Christmas baby born in Kansas City in 1939. He graduated from Lawson High School in 1957 and married Donna Scobee on August 22, 1959. He served in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. John went into business with Ron Morse in 1965, opening United Auto Service in Excelsior Springs, which is still in business to this day. Over the years, he impressed many with his skills with cars, and won numerous awards as a race car mechanic.

John leaves his wife, Donna Jackson of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; son Gregory, daughter-in-law Amy, and granddaughter Alex Jackson of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; daughter Diana and son-in-law Matt Duffy of Gladstone, Mo.; and brother David Jackson of Lathrop, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Louise Jackson of Lawson, Mo., and a daughter, Toni Renee Jackson.

Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate John’s life at a visitation service on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 217 W. Broadway, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mid-America Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
