Jewell Manley

Jewell Manley, 95, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away on September 4, 2015.

Jewell Ray Manley, 95, was born January 15, 1920 in Ray County to Elizabeth and Eli Manley. Jewell completed his grade and high school education in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Jewell joined the United States Army Air Corps on July 5, 1941 and was honorably discharged December 11, 1945, where he served as a military clerk. After military duty, Jewell was employed by Missouri Power and Light in Excelsior Springs. Later, Jewell attended Central Business College in Kansas City from 1947 to 1949, attending evening classes. Jewell’s next employment was with General Motors at the Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac Plant in Kansas City, Kans., where the plant was used for production of aircraft during the Korean War. Jewell later worked for the Commerce Bank, Certain-Teed Products, and the Internal Revenue Service, and last for Certified Public Accountants on North Oak Traffic Way. Jewell had over 35 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, and income tax work. Jewell performed audits for cooperatives, many small commercial companies, small cities, schools, and the Federal Government. He loved all types of sports and Big Band Music.

Jewell Manley was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Jewell is survived by sister, Vada Graham, nephew, John Graham, and nieces, Diana Rice and Lois Harmand James, and many other nieces and nephews.

Jewell will be remembered as a kind and gentle man and will be missed.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2015 at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home. Burial will be at State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo., at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Excelsior Springs VFW or American Legion.
