Joan Patton
Joan Carolyn Patton, 77, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Friday, March 20, 2015. She was born in Wellington, Mo., to the late Alton and Bertha Westerman on December 6, 1937.
Joan attended Wellington High School before she married her husband of 58 years, Ray L. Patton, on September 16, 1956. They lived in Excelsior Springs 54 years before moving to Blue Springs in 2014.
She was a very active member of the community, retiring from The Daily Standard in 2002 after 30 years of service. She was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church. She was also a very active member in Kappa Delta Phi and later Beta Sigma Phi, Psi Nu chapter. She served as a Den Mom with Troop 313 for many years. Family and friends were her passion. She loved to entertain, Christmas and the 4th of July were her favorite times of the year. She never met a stranger and you always felt welcome when you were around Joan. She and her husband loved to travel and took the grandkids on several trips.
Joan is survived by her husband, Ray L. Patton; their son, Kevin (Jennifer) of Republic, Mo.; daughter, Joanna Rae (Mark) Grote of Blue Springs, Mo.; two grandsons, Jimmy Riegel, USMC, and Timothy Patton of Republic, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Abby Grote of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Judy (Jackie) Klotz of Sugar Creek, Mo.; one brother, Alton “Jr.” (Joyce) Westerman of Lexington, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2015 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow directly. Pastor Scott Hatfield of Gateway Church of Blue Springs will be officiating. The burial will be at the Wellington City Cemetery, Wellington, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions to Liberty Hospital Hospice.
