James Albert Twigg

James Albert Twigg, Holt, Mo., passed away November 1, 2012 at Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehab. James was born March 8, 1932 in Rolfe, Iowa, to Albert and Mary Ellen Twigg. On September 28, 1957 he was united in marriage to Eleanor North. Jim attended Emmetsburg Iowa Community Jr. College. He worked for many trucking companies in Northwest Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Jim was employed by Midwest Coast Trucking Co. in Sioux Falls, S.D., as a Safety Supervisor.

In 1964, the family moved to Liberty, Mo., where Jim was instrumental in forming the first Pop Warner Little League football program. He was also an active energetic coach for the basketball and baseball programs, as well. He was an assistant leader in Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and President of Liberty High School PTA. Jim was employed for the U.S. Department of Transportation for 20 years. He worked for the Federal Highway Administration in Kansas City and Washington, D.C., as a Safety Management Specialist and Compliance Officer as a Hazardous Material Field Program Officer, Regional Accident Investigation Specialist, and Handicapped Driver Waiver Specialist. He was responsible for the driving waiver for the first above the knee right leg and above the elbow right arm amputees. Those drivers were virtually accident free at the time and were beating the general public in accident free records. Jim spent 14 years as a Loss Prevention Manager for an insurance company out of Florida. He was a long time member of the Holt United Methodist Church.

He will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of 55 years, Eleanor; his two daughters, Teri North of Lithia, Fla., and Sheri (Col. Thomas) Holden of Lithia, Fla.
; his three sons, Larry (Sylvia) Twigg of Pleasant Praire, Wis., Gary (Cheryl) Twigg of Raymore, Mo., and Jerry (Jennifer) Twigg of Acworth, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Dr. Brad (Stephanie) Twigg of Kansas City, Mo., Brett Twigg of Kansas City, Mo., Bryce Twigg of Raymore, Mo., Garett Twigg of Pleasant Praire, Wis., Gavin and Jansen Twigg of Augusta Ga., Tommy Holden of Lithia, Fla.; and two granddaughters, Alyssa Twigg of Houston, Texas, and Cailin Holden of Lithia, Fla. Jim is also survived by one brother, William of Orange City, Fla.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and his parents.

Visitation for Mr. Twigg will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney Mo. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at the Holt United Methodist Church. Donations may be made to the church in honor of Mr. Twigg.
