Lena Garreffa
Lena Garreffa, 100, Mosby, Mo., passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014.
Lena was born October 28, 1913 in Clarksdale, Iowa, to Mike and Rochelle Malletta. She married Frank Garreffa in May 1930. They had two children, Maria Garreffa Hall and Ropie Garreffa. The family moved to Mosby, Mo., in March 1942.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son, Ropie; three brothers and three sisters; and daughter-in-law, Pat Garreffa.
She is survived by a daughter, Maria Hall and husband, Bill of Orrick, Mo., two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lena worked for Carl Bianco Resaurant in Excelsior Springs, Lake City during World War II, and at Whittaker Cable for many years. Lena also worked for the Clay County Election Board until the age of 92. She was honored and received a plaque for her services. Lena also worked in the Liberty School District as a cook in many of the schools. Lena was also a member of the Mosby Baptist Church. She was the oldest member of the church.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mosby Baptist Church.
