Larry Smith
Larry Truman Smith, 70, a lifelong resident of Excelsior Springs,
passed away peacefully Saturday, February 16, 2013 at North Kansas City
Hospital. Larry was born December 3, 1942 in Excelsior Springs to Andy
and Mabel Louise (Clevenger) Smith. He graduated from Excelsior Springs
High School in 1962 and married Carolyn Huntsman on March 22, 1969.
Larry served in the Missouri National Guard during the Vietnam
conflict.
Larry was a member of the Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy
Workers International Union (PACE) and the United Steel Workers Union
while working at National Starch in North Kansas City, Mo., until his
retirement in 2002 after 40 years of service. Larry was a also member
of Woods Memorial Christian Church in Excelsior Springs and a member of
the local The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, mother, father and his
stepmother, Hazel N. Smith.
He is survived by one son, Chad Smith and his wife, Jennifer of Kansas
City, Mo., and three grandchildren, Carter Smith, age 12, Kaylee Smith,
age 9, and Braden Smith, age 6.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Bross
& Spidle Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to
7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to
the American Lung Association.
