Lilly Mae Thompson

Lilly Mae (Warren) Thompson, 82, died February 6, 2012 at her daughter's home in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Lilly was born February 23, 1929 in Collins, Mo., to Ernest and Nancy (Taylor) Warren. She grew up in Liberty, Mo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Virginia, Edwin, and David, her husband, William F. (Fritz) Thompson and her son, Paul Allen (Rusty) Thompson.

She is survived by one sister, Evalena Samborski, Wheatland, Mo.; her daughter, Carolyn Larsen (Eric), Glen Ellyn, Ill.; Linda Thompson; five grandchildren, Megan Herndon (Christopher), Zachary (Octavia) Thompson, Cori (Jeremy) Cheek, Mallory Larsen, and Ryan Larsen; and five great grandchildren.

Lilly served as head cook at the Kearney High School cafeteria for many years then later worked at Hallmark Cards and retired from there. However, retirement didn’t mean that Lilly sat in a rocking chair. For many years after that she could be seen riding her John Deere tractor around Kearney, proudly taking care of lawns for her many customers.

Lilly married William F. (Fritz) Thompson, the love of her life in 1948 and they settled in Kearney. They had two children, Carolyn and Paul (Rusty) and a steady stream of household pets. When Rusty was stricken with multiple sclerosis Lilly added a room onto her house and devoted herself to caring for him until his death. Lilly enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with her friends, playing the slots at the casino boats, drinking coffee at Sarah’s Table, and being with her family, who will miss her enthusiastic joy for life, devotion to her family and her generous spirit. The unbridled joy she brought to family times, especially the Christmas season and her delicious homemade candies will be missed by all.

Visitation will be at Fry Bross and Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney, Mo., from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2012. A memorial service will be at the same location on Saturday, February 11 at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kearney, Mo.
