Mabel M. Billington
Mabel M. Billington, 100, of Kearney, Mo., passed away January 16, 2015.
Mabel was born September 28, 1914, in Evans, Iowa, to Fred M. Cox and Bonnie Bessie Mundell Cox. Mabel married James A. Billington on January 17, 1934. Mabel and Jim adopted Bonnie Joy Billington on July 29, 1942. Mabel was the owner/operator of Bonnie Beauty Shop in Overland, Mo. Mabel was an active member of Eastern Star. Mabel and Jim moved to Kearney, Mo., in 1987.
Mabel was an active member The First United Methodist Church of Kearney, where she loved serving as greeter on Sunday mornings. Mabel loved life and her family and lived every day of her 100 years to the fullest. Mabel will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Billington, brothers Eugene Cox, Fred M. Cox, Edward L. Cox, and sisters, Joy Cox Heys and Emma June Cox Rogers.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Billington Rivard, and son-in-law, Pete Rivard, Kearney; granddaughters, Heather Rivard Heffington (Mark R. Heffington) of Springfield, Mo., and Gretchen Rivard Miller (Mike S. Miller), Kearney, Mo.; great-grandsons, Bryce R. Heffington and Montana S. Miller; great-granddaughter, Micha L. Miller; sister, Delores Cox Ross, Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Kearney, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Kearney, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Liberty Women’s Clinic, 11 N. Gallatin Street, Liberty, Missouri 64068 in honor of Bonnie being an adopted child.
