Madeline A. Creason

Madeline Anne Creason, 85, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away May 30, 2014.

Madeline was born on April 6, 1929, to Kenneth Earl Creason and Beulah Eleen (Simmons) Creason; preceded in death by both parents, one brother, Kenneth Harold Creason, his wife, Norma Jean (Refitt) Creason.

Survivors include one nephew, Steven Lee, and his son, Logan Matthew, and numerous cousins.

She graduated from Northeast High School, Kansas City, in 1946. She entered junior college and attended on and off for four years. In 1950-1955 she served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electronics technician. She returned to Santa Monica, Calif., and in 1957 she joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, until August 1964. She graduated in 1960 with her degree and teaching credential. After 7-1/2 years she left the Sisters of St. Joseph, returned to Kansas City and taught at Holy Trinity Elementary School; was accepted for training at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., assigned to language and cultural training at Instituto, Mexicano-Norteamericano in Mexico City from Aug. thru Nov. 1965, assigned to Zacapu, Michoacán, from Nov. 1965 to Aug. 1968. She was recommended for the Papal Volunteer national office by her field supervisor. She promised one year and became national coordinator of recruitment. She then returned to Kansas City and applied for a teaching position at Job Corps, Excelsior Springs, Mo., where she was hired in Nov. 1969 and worked until April 1979 teaching basic math and GED math, science and social studies.

In April 1979 her father died; she quit Job Corps and worked for Dial-a-Ride from May 1979 until Apr. 1980. In May 1980 she became bookkeeper for the Dinnerhorn Restaurant, later maintenance, security and cleanup until 1987. From 1988 until 1990 she worked as supervisor for the U.S. Census Bureau. In 1990 she ran for City Council in Excelsior, but had to go to California to attend to legal matters for her mother's sister and brother-in-law. This took some 10 years and nine trips to California. She returned to the Dinnerhorn, renamed Rembrandts, retiring at age 65. Many other activities have occurred since.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Northeast Alumni Assoc., P.O. Box 1264, Blue Springs, MO. 64013-1264 for scholarships.

Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
