Mary M. Hanson
Mary M. Hanson, 76, Excelsior Springs, died January 9, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Kansas City. She was born November 20, 1939, in Lancaster, Wis., the daughter of Guerdon C. and Della (McDonald) Eberhardt. She married Gene A. Hanson July 13, 1963, in Lancaster, Wis.
She was a third grade teacher in Excelsior Springs for 28 years, where she taught at Elkhorn and Westview Elementary Schools before she retired. She received her Master's degree in elementary education from Webster University, Kansas City.
She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Excelsior Springs. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood, the National Education Association and Chapter Xi Beta Omicron of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was an avid reader and belonged to a book club in Excelsior Springs. She was also a regular bridge player in her retirement years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jerome C. Eberhardt and Richard D. Eberhardt; and a sister-in-law, Diane Eberhardt.
Survivors include her husband, Gene, of the home; two daughters, Melissa O'Sullivan Hanson, North Kansas City, and Jennifer Jean Hanson, Lee's Summit; one sister-in-law, Sonny Eberhardt, Madison, Wis.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al and Gwen Hanson, Two Rivers, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2016 at St. Ann Catholic Church, followed by a memorial Mass at 10 a.m.; burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs. The family suggests contributions to the Good Samaritan Center, Excelsior Springs, or to the church.
Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
