Mary Kennon Heflin
Mary Kennon Heflin, 92, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014.
Mary was born in Grand Junction, Colo., on January 6, 1922, the daughter of William H. and Lulu S. Kennon. She spent her childhood on a cattle ranch in Western Colorado. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Colorado College with a degree in English literature. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Her interests included horses, reading and travel.
Mary married George W. Heflin on January 15, 1944. They lived in Kansas City, Mo., and Baltimore, Md., before moving to Excelsior Springs.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, and daughters, Anne K-H Dutton and Jane C. Heflin.
She is survived by her grandson, Richard H. Dutton of Overland Park, Kans.; son-in-law, Richard Dutton; niece, Nancy Hauer of Rifle, Colo.; and nephew, William Kennon of Fruita, Colo.
Services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service. Burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
