Marvin Perry Leslie

Marvin Perry Leslie was born on July 29, 1958, in Kansas City, Kans., to Lee and Cora Leslie. He was the 11th of 12 children. He graduated high school from the Midland Adventist Academy before attending drafting school. He married Charlene Marie Leslie on September 8, 1979, and became a father on July 2, 1982, to Lee Robert Leslie, and again on January 6, 1987, to Grant Howard Leslie. The Leslie family lived in Shawnee, Kans., before moving to Holt, Mo., in 1992, where Charlene still resides.

Marvin worked as a civil designer for 20 years at Schafer, Kline, and Warren, before later returning to school and becoming a safety supervisor at Kellogg.

He and his family have attended Northern Hills Baptist Church for over 20 years.  While there he was a dedicated member, serving as the JV Director, a Sunday school teacher, and a marriage ministry leader.

He was a generous patron to the Fellowship of the Performing Arts which helped spread God's message by bringing performances such as The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce to Kansas City and around the world. He also participated in the Watoto program through which he sponsored a child and helped build schools in Africa. For 10 years he was the volunteer webmaster for the Jesse James Farm as well as a John Newman Edwards Award recipient and also a longtime member and volunteer for the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association.  His generosity knew no bounds as evidenced by the numerous donations he made to organizations and individuals in need. He humbly gave without hesitation and found joy in helping others.

Marvin was a dedicated father who served as a baseball coach for the Boys and Girls Club as well as the Kearney/Holt Recreational Association for a combined 10 years while his sons were younger and was a constant fixture at his boy's sides as they grew up. Through his sons Marvin gained two daughters, Bethany and Erica, and became a grandfather in 2007 with the birth of Eleanor Corinne, who was followed by Arthur Liam, and Juniper Kathlene. He found an immense amount of joy in his children and grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by his brother, Robin and wife, Sue; brother, Roger and wife, Kathy; sister, Linda and husband, Ted; sister, Leanna; sister, Deanna and husband, Rick; sister, Kathy and husband, Clyde; brother, Steve and wife, Karen; and his numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

He is joining his mother and father, as well as his brother, Danny; sister, Carol; sister, Wanda; brother, Randy; and John Lennon.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Northern Hills Baptist Church, Holt, Mo. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, also at the church. Burial will be in Muddy Fork Cemetery, Holt, Mo.
