Mitchell "Chick" McNiel
Mitchell Ellis “Chick” McNiel, 86, Cameron, Mo. (formerly of Kearney, Mo.), died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011.
Mr. McNiel was born June 9, 1925, in Tahlequah, Okla., the son of Arthur Wyatt and Mamie Esther Gourd McNiel. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He later became a true cowboy by profession with a little carpentry on the side.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Schonewetter.
Survivors include: his wife, Gladys Gladd McNiel, of the home; daughter, Carolyn Miller, Edgerton; sons, Mitchell McNeil Jr., Kansas City, Joe McNeil, Holt, and Mike McNeil, Trimble; brother, Calvin C. McNiel, Muskogee, Okla.; sister, Lilly Ruth Orman, Muskogee, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at Fry Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney; burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW or DAV.
