Michael "Mike" Phillips
Michael “Mike” Phillips, 61, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 in Liberty, Mo.
Mike was born June 1, 1954 in Hamburg, Iowa, to Harold and Fern Phillips. He grew up on the family farm in Rock Port, Mo., and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1972. He attended the University of Missouri earning both a bachelors and master's degree in Parks and Recreation. He continued be avid Mizzou fan after leaving Columbia behind.
He was an active member of Missouri 4-H where he met his wife, Cheryl, while working at 4-H summer camp. They were married on December 18, 1976 in Nevada, Mo. They raised two amazing children, Ben and Cassie. Mike was an avid hunter, enjoying deer season every year at the farm in Northern Missouri. He was a dedicated deacon and Sunday School teacher at Chandler Baptist Church. He also owned and operated Blue Sky Technology in Kearney, Mo., for over 15 years.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Survivors include Cheryl, his wife of 39 years; his brother, Carl and wife, Jan; his son, Ben and his wife, Britta; his daughter, Cassie and her husband, Kevin; and his only grandson, Reed.
Services will be held at Chandler Baptist with Visitation on Monday, September 28, 2015 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and the Memorial Service will be Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Chandler Baptist Church.
Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney.
