Merritt F. Shelton
Merritt F. Shelton, 87, Pittsburg, Mo., passed away at Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs on July 3, 2013 to make home with the loving Lord.
Merritt was born to Palmer and Delka Shelton (Duncan) in Excelsior Springs, Mo., on June 4, 1926. He wed the love of his life, Jo Jean Shelton (Davis) on August 5, 1944. Merritt served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a devout member of the Catholic faith.
Merritt was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 68 years, three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Nolker of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Connie Braun of Gladstone, Mo.; five children, Frank Shelton of Liberty, Mo., Paula Cox of Lawson, Mo., Jon (Dorothy) Shelton of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Palmer (Maria) Shelton of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Ralph Shelton of Richmond, Mo.; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Thursday July 11, 2013 at St. Ann Catholic Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Mo. Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. The family suggests memorials to Three Rivers Hospice.
