Merletta Stein
Merletta Frances Stein, 92, Excelsior Springs, Mo., went to be with her
Lord and Savior on December 29, 2012. Merletta was born March 24, 1920
in Rayville, Mo., the daughter of Bert and Sarah Ann (Hankins) Hartman.
She had been a member of Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church since
1950. She was also a member of the Clay County Extension Club, 4-H,
Lioness Club and the Presbyterian Women, where she held multiple
leadership positions. She married Edward T. Stein on August 19, 1940.
They celebrated 69 years together before his passing in 2009.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diana June Cox; one sister,
Theta Zirjacks; four brothers, Elmo, Leon, Vereen “Bill”, and Junior
Hartman.
Survivors include her son, Darrell Stein and wife, Sheryl of
Smithville, Mo.; grandchildren, Malia Mabe, Brooke Pitzenberger,
Darrell Stein II, Ryan Stein, Marilyn Lynch, Michael Cox, Marie
Bennett, Machelle Timmermans and their families; 20 great grandchildren
and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Imogene Adams and
Maxine Travillion; and one brother, Arlo Hartman.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Bross
& Spidle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday,
January 2, 2013 at Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church in Excelsior
Springs, Mo., burial following at Crown Hill Cemetery. The family
suggests memorial contributions to Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church.
