Murlie J. Welch
Murlie J. Welch went home to be with the Lord on August 3, 2014.
She was born on January 7, 1914 in Janey Community, Louisiana to John E. and Dora Martin Johnson. She was raised on a large farm and had many stories of her time growing up with her brothers and sisters, who all preceded her in death.
She moved to Shreveport, La., after completing high school, to enter nursing school. There she met and married Fred L. Welch on August 21, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1963. After his death, she went back to nursing school and then worked at Highland Hospital until she was 65. At that time she began doing private care having her last patient when she was 80.
She was an excellent seamstress and loved to work with her flowers and spend time with her family and her pets. She also loved to travel and made many trips to visit her family.
In 2004, after a lengthy illness, she moved to Kearney, Mo.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Gail Schrivener (Rod), Kearney, Mo., and her son, Tim Welch, Perth, Australia; five grandsons, Kurt Schrivener, Olathe, Kans., Todd Schrivener, Kearney, Mo., Nicholas Welch, Perth, Australia, Joshua Welch, Perth, Australia, and Matthew Welch, Perth, Australia; and three great grandsons, four great granddaughters and two great great granddaughters.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. August 11, 2014, with a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. at Bross & Spidel Funeral Home in Kearney, Mo. Burial will be in Shreveport, La., on August 16, 2014 at 10 a.m.
