Olin Stephen "Steve" Thummel
Steve Thummel, 72, Lawson, Mo., passed away peacefully August 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
Steve was born October 7, 1942 in Greenville, Miss., to Olin C. and Virginia Thummel. He grew up in Bedford, Iowa, and graduated from Bedford High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1967. He graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1968.
In May 1964 he married Ila Kathleen “Kay” Sieffert in Redding, Iowa. To this union, two children, Jennifer Jacqueline and Jason Von were born. Steve moved to Lawson in 1977 with his family. He was employed by General Accounting Office in Kansas City, Mo., retiring in 1998.
Steve was an avid gardener, collector and enjoyed spending time at auctions, garage sales and estate sales.
He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Dylan, Dawson, Gavon and Dalilah Kay. As long as he was able, he visited the cemetery reading stories to his grandson, Drew.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay; grandson, Drew Michael Morris; and sister, Margaret Stillwagon.
He is survived by his son, Jason and wife, Lynda Thummel of Lawson, Mo.; daughter, Jennifer and husband, Tim Morris of Lawson, Mo.; grandchildren, Dylan, Dawson and Dalilah Kay Morris, and Gavon Thummel; and a host of many friends and relatives.
Steve was a wonderful father and papa. His witty personality and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him and will live on in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 217 W. Broadway, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2015 at Old Union Church, with burial following at Old Union Cemetery, Lawson, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to the Steve Thummel Memorial Fund c/o Lawson Bank.
