Patty "Pat" Fairley

Patty "Pat" (Martin) Fairley, 85, peacefully joined loved ones in eternal life on July 9, 2015. She had been a resident for 13 months at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center.

Pat was born September 10, 1929 in Norborne, Mo., to George W. and Fannie L. Martin, the third of six children. Her early life was spent in and around the Kansas City area. On July 24, 1954, she was joined in marriage with Merrill Fairley, and their love grew stronger over their 58 years together, until Merrill's passing in April 2012. This union was blessed with two children; their son, Timothy and their daughter, Tracy.

Merrill and Pat raised their family primarily in Milan, Mo., where Pat was heavily involved in church and school activities and was a skilled fund-raiser for the school. In the 1980's, she owned and operated Milan Decorating and Gifts.

Pat's loving, caring personality, her love of children and devotion to family would lead many to consider her their second mother or their "Granny Pat", her highest honor.

Pat loved people and was an excellent cook who enjoyed preparing food for friends, family, and even strangers. Her gift of hospitality and her passion for feeding relationships by sharing meals grew into her work through the church to provide meals to those in need, whatever the need may be. Her knowledge of food preparation allowed her to mentor many home cooks. Pat accumulated a collection of over 2000 cookbooks from all over the world. After returning to the Kansas City area in 1984, she complied and published seven cookbooks, some as fund-raisers for charitable organizations. She also assisted in bringing Southern Gospel concerts to the area for many years, often feeding the performers at her own table and then organizing and providing food for all in attendance.

Pat was greeted in heaven by her husband, Merrill; her beloved son, Tim, who preceded her in death on June 4, 2015; three brothers, George (Sonny), Donald, and Dale (Kent) Martin; and her sister, Marjorie Huth.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy; her sister, Ella McKown; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends who will mourn her loss.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. with funeral following at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 208 S. Jefferson, Kearney, Mo. Burial immediately following in the Masonic Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo.

For those who prefer, Tracy suggests donations in Pat's memory to a meal provider for those in need, such as City Union Mission of Kansas City, or your local Meals on Wheels organization.
