Ralph M. Chase

Ralph Martin Chase was born August 24, 1917 in Cloverton, Minn. He came to Missouri as a very young child in a covered wagon. He passed away November 16, 2016 at the age of 99.

He was preceded in death by wife, Marietta Lucile (Kerns) Chase; parents, Arthur Chase and Ann (Buck) Chase; five brothers, Orin Chase, Roy (Fay) Chase, Norman (Mildred) Chase, Jay Chase, Charley (Norma) Chase; five sisters, Doris (Zene) Kerns, Irene (Martin) Charlton, Ruth (Ralph) Green, Adeline (Frank) Karr, and Elsie Chase; four grandchildren, Robert Keith Shireman, Donald Clark Shireman, James Karl Shireman, and Linda Sue Shireman.

He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Willhite, California, and Martha Shireman, Maysville, Mo.; 10 great grand children, and 15 great-great grand children; and extended family, Frances and Homer Hall, Wanda Padilla, Jim Crawford, and Lewis Mercer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family thanks the Comfort Care Hospice for the help and care and the DeKalb County Senior Center for the many meals provided for Ralph the last months of his life.

Ralph was an engineer for the Kansas City Southern Railroad for many years and enjoyed telling people of his experiences on the job. He enjoyed his writing to and hearing from his pen pals. He was always willing to help people in need of assistance.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Restoration Branch Church of Jesus Christ in Maysville, Mo. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to service. Burial to follow at Amity Cemetery in Amity, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to DeKalb County Senior Center or Comfort Care Hospice.

Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
