Robert L. "Bob" Fenton
Robert L. “Bob” Fenton, 79, of Overland Park, Kans., passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on August, 13, 1935 in Blackwell, Okla., where he was raised. Bob lived life to the fullest. He had a vast array of interests and hobbies which include shooting, archery, sailing, tennis, running, photography and golf. He obtained his pilot’s license at the age of 16 and was a private pilot for over 40 years.
He was elected and served as Blackwell City Commissioner from 1974-1976. He worked in the foundry business for the majority of his working life and owned and operated two foundries, Acme Foundry in Blackwell, Okla., and National Aluminum & Brass Foundry in Independence, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert R. Fenton and Sabina Bradley Fenton Dwyer; first wife, Donna “Joy” Becker Fenton; and one brother, George A. Fenton.
He is survived by his loving family, wife of 39 years, Phyllis M. Summers Fenton of the home; son, Philip Fenton and wife, Fran of Ottawa, Kans.; daughters, Julia Coussens of Houston, Texas, Tara Russell and husband, Robert of Overland Park, Kans., and Shannon Coster and husband, Scott of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; grandchildren, Steven Coussens, Patrick and Kyle Fenton, Michelle Kupp, Lauren and Rhett Russell, Sophia and Ava Coster; and seven great-grandchildren. Bob also leaves behind his dog and companion, Toby.
A gathering of Family and Friends will be held to celebrate Bob’s life from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to be made in memory of Robert L. Fenton to Kansas City Hospice, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145 (www.kansascityhospice.org).
Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
