Ruth Pettegrew
Ruth Loraine Pettegrew, 90, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. Ruth was born July 30, 1919, in Spickard, Mo., to T.R. And Effie Fair King. Ruth and her husband, Ray, owned the Royal Grill in Excelsior Springs. She was a member of Flack Memorial Christian Union Church, Ray and Excelsior Springs Historical Societies, Clay and Ray Democratic Committees, Garden Club and Red Hat Society. Ruth also worked for the Red Cross, was a Hostess at the Liberty Hills County Club and served as a councilwoman in Wood Heights, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings. Survivors include sons, Thomas R. Pettegrew, Junction City, Kan., Robert and Mary Pettegrew, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; daughter, Janet R. Pettegrew, Albuquerque, N.M.; siblings, Arlene Holtzclaw, Excelsior Springs, Mo., Ed King, Cainsville, Mo., Rex King, Gilman City, Mo., and Ann Anderson, Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Heather Hudlemeyer, Bobby Pettegrew, Julie Pettegrew, Kerri Prom, Andy Pettegrew and Nick Pettegrew; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Bross & Spidle Chapel in Excelsior Springs. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
