Rudy E. Ruechel

Rudy E. Ruechel, age 82, of Kearney, Mo., formerly of Mandeville, Mo., passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Garden Valley Nursing Home. Rudy was born on July 31, 1931 in Austin, Minn., the son of Rudy E. and Lily (Christensen) Ruechel, Sr. On April 22, 1951, Rudy married Zoe Earl, to this union they were blessed with two children, Craig and Laura.

Rudy served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, he was employed by the Bendix Corporation. While living in Mandeville, Mo., Rudy was a Charter Member of the Carroll County Ambulance District, where he dedicated countless hours to help establish an excellent life-saving service for the community. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1989, 1990 and 1993, as Vice Chairman in 1988, 1991 and 1992 and was responsible for naming the District. Rudy was a past member of the Missouri Ambulance Association. He was loved and well respected by his Emergency Medical Services family and the community. He was a member of American Legion Post #58, in Smithville; a very active member in the Kearney Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Award; and a Kearney United Methodist Church member. Rudy was a disaster volunteer, having served eleven years for the American Red Cross, including 9/11 in New York.

Rudy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Zoe of the home; two children, Craig (Candi) Ruechel, and Laura (Tom) Heckman; one sister, Betty (Oscar) Jenkins; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, LaVonne (Kenny) Tharp.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, 1000 East 92 Highway, Kearney, Mo. A Celebration of Life to honor Rudy will follow at 7 p.m. at United Methodist Church. A Military Service will be provided by the Smithville American Legion Post # 58. The Missouri Emergency Medical Services Funeral Response Team Honor Guard will also honor Rudy by being part of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Crossroads Hospice, Advantage Hospice, Garden Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Home or the charity of your choice in memory of Rudy.
