Rose E. Rydings
Rose Evelyn Rydings, 82, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away July 17, 2014 at the St. Luke's Hospice House.
Rose was born January 8, 1932 in Kansas City, Mo., to Joseph Klos and Angela Metzler Klos. She was a 1949 graduate of Bishop Hogan High School, and went on to graduate with an Associate in Arts from Ursuline College, Paola, Kans., in 1951 and a Bachelor of Arts from Avila College in 1954. She married George Rydings on January 20, 1955. He preceded her in death in 2007.
Rose was a homemaker and mother of seven children. She was a great cook and talented artist whose work found its way into the homes of movie stars. She and George founded Rozart Pottery, a small artisan pottery business that created sought-after collectibles. Rose also enjoyed serving as an ambassador with the U.S. Army's People to People program. She and her family hosted visitors from around the world in their home during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Rose and her family moved from Kansas City to Excelsior Springs in 1975. She enjoyed making jewelry and collecting antiques. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband, Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Klos and Angela Metzler Klos, and her sister, Martha Patton.
She is survived by children, Kathleen St. John (Reggie) of Excelsior Springs, Anne White (Gary) of Lenexa, Kans., Susan Ubert (Rich) of Roeland Park, Kans., Cynthia Cushing of Kansas City, Mo., Mary Crawford (Jason) of Shawnee, Kans., Mark Rydings (Mari) of Platte Woods, Mo., and Becky White of Shawnee; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her brothers, Joseph Klos, Jr., James Klos and Daniel Klos; and sisters, Eva Bardo, Margie Skistimas, and Rita Diehl.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1503 Tracy St., Excelsior Springs. Visitation will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 20, 2014 at Bross Spidle Funeral Home, 217 W. Broadway, Excelsior Springs. Burial at Crown Hill Cemetery
