Susan Jean Payton
December 19, 1946 ~ May 18, 2016
Susan Jean Payton went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2016, after a lengthly battle with cancer. Despite the medical issues that plagued her, Susan never withdrew from life or her confidence in the Savior.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Payton; as well as her father, Melvin Welsh; her step father, Walter Franklin; her mother, Vera Welsh Franklin; and her brother, Larry Welsh.
Sue will be greatly missed by her children, Jo Ellen (and Michael) Hayworth, Joy (and Michael) Brown, Andrea (and Merrill) Russell, Ronda (and David) Lyons, and Mark (and Lisa) Payton. Sue was also blessed and delighted with grandchildren, David (and Summer) Brown, Jonathon (and Erika) Brown, Steven Russell, Lexie Russell, Marcus Lyons, Abigail Lyons, Payton Lyons, Hunter Payton, Megan Payton, and Daniel Hayworth; as well as great-grandchildren, Sawyer Brown, Silas Brown, Sadie Brown, and Mac Lyons. Sue is survived by her siblings Marion (and Gar) Van Tassell, Egbert "Butch" (and Laurita) Welsh, James (and Judy) Welsh, Carol (and Ron) Fuchs, and Teri (and Bob) James.
During the days the Lord graced us with her presence, Sue dedicated herself to the care of her family. Sue also taught school in Arizona, Illinois, and Missouri.
Sue was always at home on the farm and with the animals. She enjoyed raising sheep, cattle, dogs, and cats, but Sue cherished time with her horses. Sue participated in showing Arabian horses for nearly 30 years, enjoying her own success and contributing to the success of others.
Susan is in heaven with Jesus our Lord waiting for us, free from pain.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016 at North Hills Baptist Church, Holt, Mo., with funeral service following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kans.
Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney.
