Velma Baker
Velma M. Baker, 83, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Ms. Baker was born Sept. 23, 1928, in Deshler, Neb. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior Springs.
In addition to her parents, August and Elizabeth Achtenberg, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil J. Baker Sr.; and two sisters.
Survivors include one son, Gary I. Pedersen, Grand Island, Neb.; two stepdaughters, Helen Huffman and Mary Jo Stinson; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, with visitation from 11 a.m. to noon, prior to the services. Burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kan. Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
