Vernalee Summers Tester
Vernalee Summers Tester, 87, Kearney, Mo., was born August 2, 1927 in Clay County, Missouri. She attended grade school at Pratherville; high school in Excelsior Springs; and later William Jewell College in Liberty.
She was married to Louis Edwin Tester on December 7, 1946 in Gallatin, Daviess County, Mo. Her entire married life was spent on farms near Kearney, Mo., and she was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church, Kearney, Mo.
After the children were in school, she was employed for 20 years by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where she worked in the legal office as the Labor Relations Officer. She also prepared income tax returns, working 18 years for different employers, then after retirement as a volunteer for the Clay County Archives.
Mrs. Tester is survived by one son, Bill and daughter-in-law, Lynette Tester; one daughter, Nancy and son-in-law, Dennis Gardelius; and several grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin Summers and Paul Summers; and three sisters, Elsie Hartnett, Flora Lockwood and Marietta Spor.
She passed away November 16, 2014. A Celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney, Mo., with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. prior, burial at Fairview Cemetery, Kearney, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Clay County Archives.
