William Charles Smoot
William “Bill” Charles Smoot, 82, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away August 28, 2016.
Bill was born November 4, 1933 to Harry and Vanita (Forman) Smoot, in Kansas City, Kans. Bill worked for Avsco, retiring as Vice President of Manufacturing. He went on to be a co-founder and co-owner of American Wilcon Plastics in Orrick. He was a member, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and RA Leader at the First Baptist Church of Excelsior Springs. Bill was an avid cornet player; he started playing for the High School band while only in the 7th grade. His cornet playing took him on to the William Jewell College Dance Band and the U.S. Navy Band. He was also a high school track star, holding the school record for pole vaulting. He was a talented carpenter, and a faithful fan and supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and extracurricular activities. Since his retirement, Bill devoted himself to visiting family, friends and making new friends in local nursing facilities.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna; three children, Shana (Doug) Sharp, Larry (Michelle) Smoot, and Curt Smoot; five grandchildren, eight grandchildren, extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Excelsior Springs Church of the Nazarene with service immediately following. Burial with full military honors will be at the Masonic Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions to Excelsior Springs Church of the Nazarene.
