Dolliemae Elizabeth Wright Sutton, 91, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away on the morning of August 29, 2018, of natural causes.
Mrs. Sutton was born July 25, 1927 in Kansas City, Mo. She married the love of her life, William Sutton, on January 15, 1949, and together they raised three daughters.
Dolliemae Sutton, who was known to her friends as Dollie, worked for over 40 years as a bookkeeper at several different companies in the Kansas City area, and retired at the age of 65. She was extremely active in the Rebekahs Lodge of Missouri, serving as both a Noble Grand of more than one lodge and President of the state chapter of Missouri. She was a singer with a wonderful voice and was a soloist in her church, Roanoke Baptist Church, and at various Rebekah lodge events. Dolliemae Sutton was a strong woman who enabled her daughters to become strong women, who then in turn raised strong children. She enjoyed creating beautiful counted cross stitch pictures and sharing them with her family and friends. Family, friends, and co-workers valued Mrs. Sutton for her friendship, support, common sense, and no-nonsense attitude to life.
While greatly saddened by the death of the Suttons, Dollie and Bill’s family are blessed to know that they are together.
She was preceded in death by William Sutton, her husband of 69 years, and her beloved granddaughter, Karen Kennedy of Hollywood, Fla.
Dolliemae Sutton is survived by her daughters, Linda Hommer, Raniece Sutton-Gamache, and Elizabeth Reardon; her brother, Richard Wright; her sister, Carol Wintz Snyder; five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A combined memorial service with her husband, William L. Sutton, who passed away on August 24, 2018, was held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Lillian McDavid Independent Living Center Dining Hall, 1706 Rainbow Blvd., Excelsior Springs, MO.
The family has requested that instead of flowers donations be made in the name of Dolliemae Elizabeth Sutton to Toys for Tots.
