Marjorie Griggs

Marjorie Griggs-Jenks of Kearney, Mo., passed peacefully in her home with family by her side February 6, 2019. She was 93.

She was born January 4, 1926 in Bogard, Mo., to parents Frank and Velta Jenks.  She married the love of her life, Russell Griggs, in 1942.  The couple settled on a small farm in Missouri right after marriage where they raised three children, Mary, Robert (Bob) and Frank (Gene). They then moved to Galesburg, Ill., where Russell worked as an auto mechanic while Marjorie cared for the home.  They later relocated to Kansas City, Mo., where they had two more children, Kathy and Russell.  Marjorie collected many dear friends along the way whom she still kept in contact with frequently.  She ultimately settled in Kearney, Mo., with her daughter, Mary, to be closer to the family she so loved.

Marjorie was a devoted and loving mother.  She was very proud of her family and was excited to become a grandmother of 15, great-grandmother of 34 and great-great grandmother of two children.  Marjorie loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.  She would spend hours cooking and cleaning just right, while preparing for her company.

Marjorie was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor.  She had a special fondness of bird watching, collecting bells, and collecting rocks from family and friends’ traveling adventures.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell L. Griggs; sister, Delores Webber; brother, Edward Lee Jenks; two sons, Bob Griggs and Russell C. Griggs; and granddaughter, Danielle Griggs.

Marjorie is survived by her sister, Margaret Tuttle; her children, Mary Griggs-Adams, Frank Griggs and wife, Denise, Kathy Paquin and husband, Paul, daughters-in-law, Dorothy Griggs and Shirley Griggs; and many beloved grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather for a visitation at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 208 S. Jefferson St., Kearney, MO 64060 on Monday, February 11, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.  This will be followed immediately by a graveside service at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO 64131.  In lieu of flowers Marjorie asked for donations to go to the American Cancer Society.

Our Sincere Condolences

My prayers go out to all the family members and friends. Margie was a wonderful woman that was like a second mother while I was growing up. I wish for God to comfort the family during this time of grief. Be comforted in the fact that she is now in God’s embrace.
May God Bless you all.

Mrs. Griggs is a true lady, a woman of her time full of love, grace and class, hard working, she treated friends as family.
Beautiful person, she will be deeply missed!! My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

The fond memories of Mom will bring us comfort during this time of our loss. She is now held in the hands of God, and surrounded with love by all those who preceded her. Mom has left us with a lifetime of things to do and how to do them. Many, many lessons of life we will carry with us. We lost her here on earth but we gained an angel in heaven to watch over us. I pray for all those who were touched by her Love.
