It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Leroy Sterling Sr., 69, of Excelsior Springs, MO. James passed away October 9, 2021 in Liberty, MO. He was surrounded by loved ones.
James was born on September 1, 1952 in Iowa to William and Marian Sterling.
James grew up in Minnesota where his parents resided and started his life. He later moved to Missouri. His friends and family knew him as Jim or Jimmy. He loved to be outdoors enjoying nature. Hunting, snowmobiling and spending time on Aitkin lake ice fishing were just a few of the things he liked to do. There wasn’t a season he didn’t enjoy.
James also had a love for old cars, motorcycles and some good old country music. Riding was one of his favorite things to do. James also enjoyed playing pool. James always enjoyed when family was able to visit and he made a lot of friends throughout the years. Once James had grandchildren he shared his love of fishing with them. He was as ornery as they come.
James is survived by his wife, Becky Sterling; six children, Shannon (Shannon) Gilpin, Stephanie (Chris) Kommel, James (Brandy) Sterling, Charles Sterling, James Leroy Sterling JR, and Daniel Sterling; two sisters, Marilyn (Patrick) DeNio and Janet Olson; two brothers, Leland (Barbra) Sterling and William (Betty) Sterling; many nieces, nephews and his beloved grandchildren. Also, a beloved friend, Laura Davis.
James is preceded in death by his parents, William and Marian Sterling; his brother, Charles Sterling; four half brothers and one half sister.
James will be greatly missed but not forgotten.

My dear friend I miss you so very much. You helped me stay positive while battling cancer but you wouldn’t let me give up and I went into remission last week and the day after our miracle, you went to heaven to be with your loved ones. I’m glad you are at peace and will suffer no more. I’ll see you soon, my love! Rest In Peace!

So sorry to hear of your passing, Jimmy, I am your half brother’s, (Marvin Turner)’s), daughter.. we saw each other quite often when we were kids in Minnesota and then your family moved to Missouri. I always hopeful I would see you one more time but never got the chance. We were good friends and you always made me laugh so much, every time I saw you. You were a good person and will be missed very much. Until we meet again..your half niece, Kitty.
