Douglas Struby passed away unexpectedly on August 6, 2022. Doug was born in Moberly, Missouri, on February 17, 1952, to Harry and Irene Struby. He graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1970 and Baker University in 1975, where he played basketball.
Doug was a kind soul who always enjoyed meeting new people, was loyal to his friends, and was a HUGE animal lover. His true pride and joy were his family … especially his grandkids, nieces, and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Struby, his parents, and two sister-in-laws, Marsha and Marilyn.
He is survived by daughter, Cara Slaven, and her husband, David, of Shawnee; grandchildren, Caden, Rylee, Payton, and Alison (all of whom he devoted himself to and loved every minute being with); siblings, Carl (Diana), Dave (Kathy), Charley, Diane (Don) Winter, and Pam (Mark) Hannifan; as well as 17 nieces and nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Doug’s life is being planned for later. Donations may be made to Down Home Ranch in Elgin, TX, Great Plains SPCA Pet Adoption Center, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in his memory and honor.
Arrangements in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
