Dr. Richard Renfro, 82, of Kearney, MO, passed away February 5, 2024.
Dr. Renfro was born November 16, 1941, in Bodine, Louisiana. He was active in many school activities while growing up and ended up obtaining a PhD in Psychology due to his work with the Boy Scouts of America. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force and after his tour he came to Missouri, married his late wife, Carol Renfro, and started his family and business in Kearney, Missouri. Dr. Renfro had his own business, Renfro Fire and Alarm, for 30 plus years. He was a member of the Methodist Church for many years while living in Kearney and later in Kansas City.
Dr. Renfro was active in many community organizations such as the Loyal Order of Moose Fraternity and the Kearney, Missouri, VFW Post 5717 where he was a Lifetime member. He was also a Life Member of the Missouri State Bowling Board, serving as Director and President, and as Director Emeritus. He is part of the Missouri Bowling Hall of Fame. He also held offices in the Shooting Star Square Dance Club. He enjoyed bowling and square dancing, as well as playing slot machines at the casinos. One of favorite past times was enjoying Taco Tuesday with his best friend, Larry Larson (ML).
Dr. Renfro leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Roberta Joanne Henry Renfro; a son, John Gared Renfro (Richard); a sister, Dr. Mary Ann Wells (Jim); sister-in-law, Bonnie Potter (Dennie); brother-in-law, Bob Matthews (Diane); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 208 S. Jefferson St., Kearney, MO. Dr. Renfro’s cremated remains will be interned in a private ceremony with family at the Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Hearing Loss Association of America.
