Freda Mae Haney, 83, of Polo, Mo., passed away on July 25, 2024.
Freda was born on November 13, 1940, in Flemington, Mo., to Loren and Zena (Lightfoot) Pitts. She married Edgar “Ed” Haney in 1957 and had two children, Eddie and Vickie.
Freda worked in Kansas City for many years and also co-owned H&H Glass Company in Excelsior Springs with Ed. It was a true family business where both Eddie and Vickie worked and the grandchildren were raised.
Freda lived life to its fullest with her family playing at the Pomme De Terre Lake in a pontoon boat (Lightfoot Landing), riding motorcycles, and going on horse trail rides (one of her favorites). She loved life on the farm and her children and grandchildren spent every weekend enjoying it with her.
She spent the last years of her life in Hermitage, Mo., near her daughter Vickie, spending a lot of time enjoying her great-grandchildren and reuniting with cousins she hadn’t seen in years. She talked a lot about swimming in the Pomme De Terre River (before it was a lake) and how Lightfoot Landing was named after her grandfather.
She was also known for writing children’s stories for her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. One was published, one is on the way, and she was still writing stories at the age of 83.
She is survived by her daughter, Vickie; son-in-law, Dan; grandson, Joseph; granddaughter, Samantha and her husband, Tim; two great-grandchildren, Hazel and Briar; and brother, Larry Pitts.
She is preceded in death by husband, Ed; son, Eddie; sister, Arlene; and brother, Jim.
Arrangements in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
