Ivan Eugene Parton

Ivan Eugene Parton

Ivan Eugene Parton, 86, of Kearney, MO, passed away on July 30, 2024. After struggling with chronic pain for many years, he passed away with his family by his side, knowing he was loved and cared for and eternally free from pain.

Ivan was born to Joe and Elsie McQueen Parton on June 27, 1938, on the farm in Maysville, MO. He attended school at Winston, MO.

He met Ruth Ann Walker and they were married on August 20, 1960. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served at Fort Hood, TX from 1961-1963.

After returning to Missouri, Ivan and Ruth Ann built a family of faith and southern gospel music that lasted until the end.

Ivan built a business, Parton’s Body Shop, in Lawson, MO. This business allowed him to work on cars during the day and play music at night- two of his favorite things. He will always be remembered for sharing his musical talents with folks near and far.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Olin Lee (Tokey) and Mildred Walker; wife, Ruth Ann; second wife, Matha; son, Joey Lee; brother, Spencer Parton; sister, Joyce Price; and brother-in-law, Nile York.

He is survived by daughter, Eugenia (Tim) Jeffery, son, Tim Parton and daughter, Melanie (Harold) Penniston; seven grandchildren, Alyssa (Derek) Hill, Brenton Jeffery, Grae Parton, Elijah Parton, Emma Penniston, Kate Penniston, and Leah Penniston; and one great-granddaughter, Adelaide Vesser. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Tokey Gardner, and brother-in-law, Dennis (Lori) Walker, and a life-time full of life-long friends.

A service celebrating his life and love for family and music will be Saturday, August 17, 2024 at First Christian Church of Kearney, Kearney, MO, at 10:00 a.m.

Family requests contributions to be made to First Christian Church of Kearney in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home Lawson Chapel.

A dear friend, Ivan.  Ivan was a regular band member at the Glory Barn in KC since the beginning in the early ’70’s. He played lead guitar and his beloved steel guitar.  His talents also extended to his voice.  The Parton Family singers were well known in the Midwest.  Ivan was a quiet, humble man who never talked about himself but made friends easily.  My husband Rick and I appreciated him and played with him in the GB band.  He volunteered his talents and played in many venues besides traveling with his musical family.  You could depend on him.  We will cherish the memories and hold Ivan dear to our hearts. Looking forward to that meeting in the sky!  Much Love!
