Mark Franklin Augur was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world suddenly on December 16, 2024 at age 70.
He was born to Harold and Mabel Augur on September 28, 1954. After graduating from Park Hill High School in 1972, Mark worked at various jobs including a roofing company and Freight Consolidations Service. After obtaining his Associate’s Degree, he started his own business in HVAC for several years. He met the love of his life Jackie. They rode on Mark’s Harley Davidson from Kansas City to Las Vegas to get married on September 21, 1981. Together, they had two wonderful children, Ben and Emily.
Mark traveled quite a bit and some of his favorite places were Germany and Holland. The most memorable was looking at bubbling lava from atop a volcano in Hawaii. He loved spending time outdoors and bought a small farm to raise cattle. He also kept bees, did woodworking, gardening and most recently took up freeze drying. He was skilled with his hands and was not afraid of hard work. He was always working on something and built his and Jackie’s dream home. There was nothing he couldn’t do.
Mark was always available to lend a helping hand and especially loved to share his knowledge of trading stock. We find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
Mark was diagnosed with stage 3B lung cancer in November 2011 and was only given a 7% chance to live. With his perseverance, optimism, and God’s grace he won the battle and was declared cancer free. His battle with other medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite these obstacles, Mark came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Jackie Augur; his two children, Benjamin (Lyndsey) Augur of Peculiar, MO, and Emily (Bret) Wiley of Kansas City, MO; six beloved grandchildren, Henry, Amelia, Ethan, Eric, Lydia, and Natalie; two brothers, Dennis (Sue) Augur, Lake Helen, FL, and Tom (Renee) Augur, Kansas City, MO; and sister, Jane Augur, Overland Park, KS; as well as countless friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for January 11, 2025 at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 208 South Jefferson, Kearney, MO 64060. Visiting hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service following. Lunch will be served at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1715 S. Jefferson St., Kearney, MO 64060.
